PRESENTING: James Hall and the Futura Bold
New album available March 22nd.
March 31, 2009
"Okay, for those of you who have asked and asked a new record is in the works... Chris, Bruce and myself have worked out a record comprising of thirteen songs we are mixing them currently and going to master them within the month. These thirteen songs are our favorites over the last three years, some written before I moved to the Atlanta area, and some brought in by Chris Piskun(guitar), and Bruce Butkovich(bass). We have had a lot of generous help and perspective from too many to list before I walk out the door, but plan on hearing me sing their praises."

Thank you for supporting the music of James Hall, see you out there!
Star Community Bar:437 Moreland Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30307, USA(MAP)
As part of Andrew and the Disapyramids' residency, James Hall has agreed to open this Wednesday at 9pm. Hall brings his often eclectic mix of roots, disco, soul and trashy rock to the Star Community Bar. Despite his "electrocoustic" status, his songs can erupt quicker than a San Antonio meth lab. Andrew and the Disapyramids bring '60s rock to new life for kids who never felt its power. Far from your typical "oldies" band, these young musicians deliver British Invasion and Surf Classics with the passion and conviction that these songs beg for, but are rarely heard. They move from maximum R&B to Surfin' Birds quicker than James Hall can take off his shirt and roll around...
Its Jazz and Heritage Fest season in New Orleans... but this show's got nothing to do with that. Modern Alt-rocker James Hall returns to New Orleans to play the newly renovated Circle Bar for his first elektric show in a year. With will be Georgia's FISHHAWK, who have one foot in the buzzblip electroclash, and another in side 2 Sticky Fingers. While this combination might not sound easy to pull off, they effortlessly hand down a vibe which calls to mind the Madchester scene circa 1986. Don't miss this show, boys!

James Hall Acoustic=Solo Show
Peachtree Tavern:3179 Peachtree Rd NE #B, Atlanta, GA 30305, USA(MAP)
The Legend brings one of his first ever sets of acoustic music to the Peachtree Tavern in Atlanta. Known mostly for incendiary rock frontmanship, Hall has one of the most expansive selections of songs from over the years, and the deep voice to render most hipsters, drunks and fishermen breathless. He opens the show for the Dreaded Marco, who are in the same stroke southern, innovative and genuine.
Carrollton Station:8140 Willow St., New Orleans, LA, USA(MAP)
James Hall returns to play New Orleans this Carnival Season at the Carrollton Station! In the first time in over a year, he's showing up acoustic(mostly) with longtime friend and collaborator Michael Blum, on lapsteel. Opening the night will be Blum's newest project, Mystery Girl. Expect a night with intimate and intense versions of songs he wrote during his fifteen year tenure in the Crescent City. If the crowd gets loud, so will James. He come prepared.
The Tin Roof:1117 Magnolia Rd., Charleston, SC, USA(MAP)

James Hall At the Basement!
The Basement:1604 8th Avenue S, Nashville, TN, USA(MAP)
James Hall is best known as the electrically supercharged front man from the alt-rock heavy hitting the Futura Bold, the seminal post punk Pleasure Club, and the iconic Goth-tinged Mary My Hope.
But here's a little known James Hall fact: he actually grew up in Nashville. Yep, the Music City is the fertile ground that framed the portrait of the young man as an artist. He spent his musical formative years (8 - 18) soaking up all the soulful vibrations the city had to offer while his inner rock star incubated.
Now he's back for one night only to perform a solo show at The Basement (Below Grimey's New & Pre-loved Music) on Saturday, October 22 at 11:00 pm. Hall's solo shows really shine a light on what has always been his secret weapon: songwriting. Sophisticated, soulful, and honest, Hall is one of the best contemporary writers out there. Come out and see and hear your boy all grown up as the portrait of the artist in full effect.

Joseph Arthur and James Hall
Kessler Theater:1230 West Davis Street, Dallas, TX, USA(MAP)
Brooklyn, NY's Joesph Arthur returns to the Kessler on Saturday, Sept 16 with his wildly imaginative brand of soulfully catchy, explosive trip hop in support of his latest release, "The Graduation Ceremony". Arthur, "The Jackson Pollock of post punk", is a fantastic musician and artist not to be missed.
Opening the bill is the one and only James Hall from Atlanta, Ga. Hall is best known as the electrically supercharged front man from the alt-rock heavy hitting the Futura Bold, the seminal post punk Pleasure Club, and the iconic Goth-tinged Mary My Hope. But it is Hall's songwriting that has always been his secret weapon. Sophisticated, soulful, and honest, Hall is one of the best contemporary writers out there. This is most apparent in his solo performances.
Arthur and Hall are old friends and together they will undoubtedly create an evening of magic at The Kessler Sept 16. Tickets are available at Prekindle.com/Kessler.
Electric troubadour James Hall (Mary My Hope, Pleasure Club, the Futura Bold) is joined by fellow Player/Kommander alum, Johnny Blade (Autumn Lords), for an intimate night of song wizardry, burrakathary, and communal merriment at Rojo in Birmingham, AL on Friday, September 16.
Drawing from P/K's prodigious material (including the exceptional "On The Verge Of Absolute Get Down"[2008 Mighty Loud]), Hall's solo work, and a few seminal chestnuts, this promises to be a quality evening.
Hall and Blade are highly regarded, unique characters long steeped in the rock and roll tradition. But it is their prowess in the rare craft of sophisticated songwriting that shines through on a performance like this. Hear how well these songs stand up in a different light, on their own as they truly are without the bells and whistles.
Rojo has vibe, and the turnout for Hall and Blade was strong the last time they came through. Come out and join the fun Friday the 16th (8 pm).
You might have some Tanya Tucker in you after all.
The Roxy Theatre:9009 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, CA, USA(MAP)
For the first time since 2008, James Hall returns to play the Roxy Theatre on Sunset! He will be playing at 9:00 sharp, drawing on songs from his most recent Futura Bold LP, as well as some of his '90s non-hits that people love. Rendering the songs will be Robin Finck (lead guitar for NIN,GNR, & Cirque de Soleil), Bruce Butkovich (bass), and Jonathan Bragg (drums). James and Co. will be opening for Texas' Slobberbone, who sound something like Social Distortion duking it out with the Pogues in a Cajun bar. And opening the night will be Darius Texas, nom de plume for film composer Darius Holbert, who rarely plays live, but is capable of converting more believers in one set than the Texas Rangers can in one season!

James Hall SOLO
Atlanta Room:1578 Piedmont Blvd., Atlanta, GA, USA(MAP)
Rather than barbeque, James Hall will be playing a solo show this Sunday at Smith's Atlanta Room, opening for Rusty Cobb! He will be performing his more recent folk songs, as well as some old '90s non-hits in preparation for his show in L.A. this week. Rusty will be hosting the residency with his close friends, and promises the most chill evening West of Piedmont!
Its been about a year since James Hall has done a solo show here, and hell, he doesn't play here often, so come out and hear him all stripped down. This Ole Shouter has a number of great songs he rarely does solo, where you can hear the words, so catch him tonight. He'll be playing with Anne McCue, fresh out on her U.S. tour to support Broken Promise Land, a great collection of swamp rock, AM soul, and Memphis groove. Also playing will be Charleston's Mel Washington, who's songs can range from sounding like a Kravitz fronted Built to Spill, to a Gospel voiced Sonic Youth. Starting the night will be Little Country Giants, from Ranger bringing their full on Appalachian Folk Country. All this great music for ten clams, talk about a night worth seeing!
The House At Five Points:2020 Devine St., Columbia, SC, USA(MAP)
James Hall plays SOLO at the House at 5Points, his first show in this area since the heady 000's fronting Pleasure Club. He rarely plays acoustic, so be sure to catch him, he's great. Also on is Anne McCue, who is currently promoting her new record Broken Promise Land. She is first call on lead guitar for Lucinda, but equally capable of bringing the house down as a frontgirl, herself. She can call up Experience era cosmic soul, and turn around with a ballad that could sit comfortably on Tapestry. Also on the bill will be Mel Washington, who has the passion of Percy Sledge, the string skills of Clapton, and gut of a gospel choir. Don't miss him, get there early!

James Hall at the Pour House

He will play virtually any song he was a part from across the last 25 years.... Also on will be Anne McCue, currently supporting her record "Broken Promise Land". She is the genuine article and capable of a Tony Joe White/J.J. Cale stomp to a Joni-style confessional, and virtually anything in between. Prepare to be amazed! Also on the bill will be All Get Out's Mel Washington, who has songs that sound of Mama Said-era Lenny fronting Built to Spill, or a gospel choir of angels falling from a burning zeppelin. Check him out.
DJ's Tavern:17 John Davenport Dr. NW, Rome, GA, USA(MAP)
By special request, James Hall has been asked to open for Fishhawk at their favorite haunt in Rome, GA!! James' wild blend of blues, AM soul, punk and shout, is just the hype for Fishhawk's electro-Doors meets Numanhop. Fishhawk's last show at DJ's was one for the books, so come out early for a spot in the choir pit next to the stage and sing along!

James Hall & the Futura Bold at the Kessler Theater
Kessler Theater:1230 West Davis St, Dallas, TX, USA(MAP)
James Hall and the Futura Bold are being brought to the Dallas' legendary Kessler Theater to celebrate their 1st birthday! Legendary Atlanta-based rock singer-songwriter James Hall is known for his consistently stunning live performances, including a weekend-long stand here last summer. As the leader of groups like Mary My Hope, Pleasure Club and now The Futura Bold, Hall has cemented his reputation as one of the original pioneers of underground alternative rock. Co-headliner Mark Growden played on opening night at The Kessler, back on that bizarre snowy evening in late March of last year. His captivating performance that night was the talk of the town for weeks afterwards, and he was invited back to play once again last summer. This upcoming performance in March will serve as a celebration on two different levels- the release of Growden's new CD, and the one year anniversary of the venue itself. Presale tickets will be available for $17 + service charge at Prekindle.com/Kessler, or $20 at the door on the night of the show.
Friday, March 11, James Hall and the Futura Bold will play Augusta's Sky City with Debt of Nature. It is Hall's first time performing since the days of his legendary Red Lion shows throughout the 90s. In addition to promoting their new LP, the Futura Bold will be lining up to play some of Mary My Hope's material from the 80s...

Geri X has her video release this night and I have been asked to come down and play a set solo. For those who don't know Geri, she is one of the most prolific writers I've met and she has an incredible sense of making the unworkable work. I got the chance to write with her this year at Steel Bridge Songfest. One of the highpoints of the whole week. Eric McFadden is also on the bill, so I hope to get in early enough to brush up on some of the songs he and I wrote together. Such happy news that I don't have to wait another year to see my SBSF5 friends! What's more,
I haven't been down to Tampa area in, I don't know, six years. Been hearing about the Crowbar for just about as long.
